A brighter future for my children?

Becoming a parent is a transforming journey, one of the biggest life-changing events that anyone can go through. It is no wonder that, when we welcome new life into the world, many new parents reflect on the world they are bringing their children into and the role they play in shaping it. The question "What world am I creating for my children?" has the power to inspire change, leading us to seek sustainable alternatives with the goal of securing a brighter future.

Let's talk about toys

“The toy industry is the most plastic intensive industry in the world”

One of the pressing concerns for parents is the environmental footprint of raising children. When you have children it can be more complicated to live a sustainable life. Babies grow (very!) rapidly, necessitating a constant influx of new clothes that replace the outgrown. Sadly, instead of passing these garments on or donating them, a staggering 20 billion pounds of clothing are discarded annually. Moreover, the well-intentioned gifts of plastic toys that adorn baby showers often meet a grim fate. Over a third of these toys are abandoned within a month, ultimately contributing to a shocking 24,000 tons of plastic waste dumped into our oceans daily.

The Diaper Dilema

Babies, as we all know, go through an abundance of diapers, a lot of them! Disposable diapers alone generate a staggering 3.5 million tons of landfill waste each year, taking a mind-boggling 500 years to decompose. Additionally, baby wipes, used at a rate of about 3,000 per year per baby, contain dreaded microplastics that infiltrate our environment.

The whirlwind of parenting leaves little time for in-depth research into sustainable alternatives. This is where Iknyte steps in! We're committed to easing this burden, providing support for environmentally-conscious parents seeking to create a brighter world for their children. We believe in the concept of being "good ancestors" and paving the way for future generations.

She has shared with the Iknyte community how to make natural baby powder using only 4 ingredients and natural baby wipes which help you avoid putting nasty chemicals anywhere near your baby.

Our platform also champions small businesses that produce sustainable alternatives, such as reusable diapers - which might sound scary at first, but they are a game-changer for parents once they give them a try. Hi everyone!

I am a PhD researcher focused on developing sustainable development strategies in companies using permaculture. I have been working on social impact and sustainability projects around the world for over nine years and I do sustainable development consultancy using concepts such as the circular economy and permaculture to maximise social impact, sustainability and innovation.

In 2015 I was volunteering in a children’s home in Malawi and, with the aim to create long lasting impact I taught the foster mothers how to make a solar cooker. I realised that, there are so many amazing sustainable solutions around the world but many people don’t know about them or where to find them. This is why I cofounded Iknyte, to create a platform with practical sustainable solutions created by people all around the world and made accessible to everyone everywhere.
